Batley Bulldogs fight back for Northern Rail Cup win at Keighley Cougars
Batley Bulldogs produced a storming second-half fightback to win 22-16 at Keighley Cougars in Sunday's opening Northern Rail Cup group game.
Batley took a 13th minute lead with a try from Tom Henderson but the hosts hit straight back with a Jason Demetriou try. Danny Jones added the goal for a 6-4 lead.
A try from Richie Barnett saw Keighley take a six-point advantage and when Jones converted a James Feather try seven minutes into the second half in seemed the home side were in control at 16-4.
Johnny Walker touched down for Batley after 55 minutes while their efforts reaped more reward with three tries in the final nine minutes securing victory.
First Danny Maun crossed for a try while a 74th minute try from Mark Applegarth saw Batley draw level.
Gareth Moore nudged them ahead with the conversion while a Gareth Potts try two minutes from time sealed a fine fightback, to give coach John Kear a first competitive win in charge of the Bulldogs.
