Bentley fires hat-trick in emphatic Rising Sun victory out footballing lesson to Belle Vue
SECOND-PLACED St John Fisher closed the gap on leaders Birstall St Patricks to just four points after they won their top of Heavy Woollen Gate League Division One clash 5-1.
Dominic Riordan led the Fisher charge, scoring four goals, with Chris Thornton bagging the other as they closed the gap on St Pats and still have five games in hand. Scott Minto was St Pats’ scorer.
Shoulder Gomersal are third after they had a narrow 3-2 success over Hartshead thanks to Adam Smith, Andrew Wood and Jordan Midwood.
Craig Johnson, Dominic Owens, Reece Drake, Sam Atkinson and Oliver Rounding found the net as fourth placed Mirfield Town won 5-1 at Bay Horse East Ardsley (Ian Appleyard).
Ravenswharfe edged an 11-goal thriller, beating Overthorpe Town 6-5.
Jake Gibson (two), Steve Smith, Lee Poskitt, Robert Stenhowe and Andy Marshall were Ravenswharfe’s scorers, with Town replying through an Aaron Kennedy hat-trick, Steve Jordan and Tristran Kennedy.
Birstall were also involved in a close game, narrowly beating Oakwell Motel 4-3 with goals from Danny Phillips (brace), Dean Bennett and Danny Danby. Lee Scott (brace) and Danny Wilson replied for Oakwell.
Peter Dzvonik scored twice in Crown Leeds Road’s 6-3 win at Shoulder of Mutton. Michael Smith, Carl Austin, Michael Chadwick and Daniel Coucill bagged the others, with Patrick Davies, Will Aitken and an own goal being Shoulder’s scorers.
Birkenshaw Reserves are second bottom but they beat Hunsworth, the only side below them, 5-2 thanks to strikes from Michael Smith, Paul Woolford, Paul Smith, Johnny Blatchford and an own goal.
Adam Bokalo and Jason Robinson netted for Hunsworth, who are now nine points from safety.
n With Littletown’s game against Thornhill Lees falling victim to the wet weather, the only Premier Division game saw Battyeford lift themselves out of the relegation zone with a 4-1 win at Howden Clough. Danny Hickling, Andy Feeny, Jamie Brannan and Lamin Bojang were Battyeford’s scorers, with Mark Heseldin replying for Clough, who stay sixth.
The win saw Battyeford move above Babes in the Wood and Woodman Batley Carr.
