Delight as Victoria master students

Birstall Victoria 16 Leeds Trinity 10

VICTORIA shook off the cobwebs after their long lay-off and won a closely-fought game against the students of Trinity and All Saints College, at White Lee, in the second round of the BARLA National Trophy.

The visitors took an early lead with a penalty goal but shortly after Jonny Stainburn put the Vic ahead with an unconverted try scored at the corner.

Trinity took advantage of a heavy penalty count against Victoria and added two more goals to lead 6-4 at half-time.

Victoria defended well and played some good football. A try by Rob Copley was converted by Mick Dyson but Trinity hit back with a try to level at 10-10.

From a scrum Ben Copley put Dyson through for a try and Dyson converted to give the Vic a lead they held to the end.

MoM for Victoria was Ben Copley with Rob Copley, Dyson and Stainburn also having good games. There was also a welcome return for Paul Lynn after breaking his leg last season.
