Fretwell shows how it's done with great hat-trick in key win for Mirfield Parish A
PAUL Fretwell took a hat-trick and finished with seven wickets as Mirfield Parish Cavaliers A gained a vital win over Scholes A in the battle to beat the drop in Central Yorkshire League Division Two.
Parish’s nine-wicket triumph saw them move up to fourth-bottom, seven points clear of Scholes who slipped to the foot of the table after Liversedge A’s success at Wakefield St Michaels A.
After Thomas Fretwell had failed to break the Scholes openers his dad Paul came on to show the youngster how it was done. Paul trapped Neil Goldsborough (18) lbw and then bowled Illy Lunat and Robert Brown to seal the hat-trick.
Scholes never really recovered and despite the reliable Andy Spencer carrying his bat for 70 Scholes were 162 all out.
Neil Parkinson claimed 2-48 and Thomas Fretwell (1-34) took the last wicket.
Parish openers Raith Sidwell and Jonathan Hellings (58) then shared a stand of 101 to set them on the road to victory. Sidwell ended 63 not out with Dave Jackson unbeaten on 37 as Parish reached 165-1.
An excellent bowling display from Jamie Hardcastle set Liversedge on track for a five-wicket victory at St Michaels A.
He took 5-26 in 14 overs with two maidens as the hosts were 119 all out. Matthew Gledhill top scored with 26 as Ewan Hardcastle (1-37), Brandon Rowlands (1-17) and Ben Cross (2-15 in eight overs and three maidens) also struck.
Tight bowling saw the run chase frustrated but Liversedge A finally reached 120-5 in their 46th over with Simon Horkin (41no), Ewan Hardcastle (22) and Cross (19) leading the way.
Batley A slipped to third-bottom, two points behind Parish A, after a three-wicket defeat at New Farnley A.
Q Ghafoor led the Batley innings with 49 while A Rawat (21) and U Majid (39) supported as they were 169 ball out. J Rothery claimed 3-20 in 10 overs and M O’Halleran 3-54.
Good bowling by K Rashid (3-24), Majid (2-27), Rawat (1-27) and R Hussain (1-41) reduced Farnley A to 109-6 before O’Halleran (53no) led them to 172-7.
Ossett A remain top after a four-wicket win at home to Wakefield Thornes A.
East Ardsley A lost by four wickets at home to Townville A and slipped to third as Adwalton moved a point clear in second place with an emphatic 127-run triumph at Westwood Park.
