Hanging Heaton earn third straight league win

Hanging Heaton claimed their third straight win in the Allrounder Bradford Premier League and continue to set the early pace as table toppers.

Heaton overcame promoted Scholes by eight wickets last Saturday and, along with champions Pudsey St Lawrence, are the only teams to remain unbeaten.

Yassir Ali (68) led the way for Scholes, while former Heaton player James Stansfield struck 35 but the visitors total of 178 was always going to be someway off challenging.

Overseas player Muhammed Rameez took 4-48 before openers Nick Connolly (68no) and Gary Fellows produced a 90-run stand to put Heaton on course for victory.

Fellows fell for 49 — just two runs short of reaching the 4,000 landmark for the club in little over three seasons

St Lawrence are six points behind Heaton in the early standings and their latest victims were Woodlands who they defeated by 25 runs.

Prolific left handed opening Mark Robertshaw made 97 and received support from James Smith (42) and fellow opener Adam Waite (33) as Saints posted 220-9, with off spinner Kez Ahmed pick of the Woodlands bowlers with 4-69.

Captain Tim Jackson (43) top scored for Woodlands but although Logan Weston (37) and Scott Richardson (35no) supported, the visitors were bowled out for 195 with Steve Watts (5-37) and Richie Lamb (3-16) impressing.

Cleckheaton slipped to a first defeat of the season away to Bradford and Bingley

Opener Jack Edgar hit a maiden Premier League century as he struck four sixes and 13 fours in an unbeaten 110 which helped his side to post a score of 242-5.

Matthew Walker made an unbeaten 45 and followed up with 5-69 as Cleckheaton were bowled out for 227 in reply, despite the efforts of Chris Holliday (69) and James Lee (51) .

East Bierley slipped to the foot of the table and are still seeking their first win after going down to New Farnley.

Bierley’s are yet to register a single batting bonus point as they were bowled out for just 123.

Spinner James Middlebrook took 4-4 with support from Mark Lawson (3-26) and Muhammad Bilal (3-23).

Bjorn Taylor (46) and Fahid Rehman (37) were the leading Bierley run scorers.

Lawson struck 57 in reply as Farnley took just 20.3 overs to reach their target.

There was a dramatic finish at Scatcherd Lane where Lightcliffe needed two runs from the last ball to beat Morley, but Mark Horne was run out attempting a second run as the game was tied.

Morley were reduced to 48-6 when they batted first, but wicketkeeper Luke Heinemann made a fine 77 and Colin Nuthall (43) to enable their side to post a challenging 173.

Jonathan Whiteoak (6-33) impressed for Lightcliffe and was supported by overseas player Suleman Khan (3-30).

Chris Taylor (41), Rhys Jowett (35) and Ian Philliskirk (31) helped Lightcliffe edge towards the Morley score in the face of some tight bowling from Kashif Naveed (3-37) before the dramatic finale saw the sides tie.
