Healey Karate Club celebrate national trophy success

HEALEY Karate Club celebrated success at the National Championships, which were held in Chester at the end of last month.

The club attracts members from Dewsbury Moor and Earlsheaton, as well as Batley, and six Healey students reached finals in their individual events, while the Kata teams tied for first place and were forced to compete again to determine the eventual winners.

Bradley Mackinnon was awarded a trophy for the best performance in the boys category and Liam Jenkins was awarded the Colin Williams Memorial Trophy for outstanding performances in the Kumite and Kata senior categories.

Sensei Colin 7th Dan was presented with an authentic Samurai helmet in Japan many years ago and it is now used as the memorial trophy, which is presented to the student who has excelled in the senior category.

Individual Results: Lewis Littlewood - second place boys (12-15) Kata; Liam Jenkins - second place senior Kumite and 3rd senior Kata, plus Colin Williams Memorial Trophy for the outstanding senior performance; Brad Mackinnon second place boys (12-15) Kumite and outstanding performance boys trophy; Lesley Mackinnon - second place ladies Kumite; Jack Wilkinson - second place children’s Kata (U12s) and second children’s Kumite (U12s); Raiyyaan Patel - second place children’s Kata (U12s).

Team Results: Healey Kata Team B - First place children’s team Kata all ages and grades (Tom Brackley, Brad Mackinnon, Jack Wilkinson). Healey Kata Team A - Second place children’s team Kata all ages and grades (Adam Varley, Lewis Littlewood, Muhammed Amaan Patel).

The club train at Healey Community Centre on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 7-9pm.
