Heaton to face Wrens in semis

HANGING Heaton will entertain Wrenthorpe in the Heavy Woollen Cup semi-final on Sunday July 15 in a repeat of the 2010 final.

Hanging Heaton overcame Huddersfield League high fliers Golcar by eight wickets in last Sunday’s quarter-final.

Australian Andrew Chalkley (59no) was the only Golcar batsman to reach double figures as the visitors were bowled out for 114.

Opening bowler David Stiff claimed 5-35 from eight overs, with Mark Lawson (3-27) supporting.

Rob McFarlane hit 10 fours and a six on his way to 63 not out as he shared a 105-run second-wicket stand with James Stansfield (42).

Wrenthorpe reached the semis after winning on the toss of a coin away to Delph & Dobcross, whose ground was waterlogged.

Wrenthorpe are facing a horrendous fixture pile up as the Central Yorkshire Premier Division leaders are still involved in the Jack Hampshire Cup and Black Sheep Yorkshire Champions Trophy and are on course to qualify for the Council play-offs.

Townville travel to holders Shepley in the other semi-final on July 15 after thrashing Methley by seven wickets.

There is a chance of Bresnan siblings Richie and Nick —brothers of England star Tim — meeting in the final.

Richie Bresnan (4-12), Wade Lezar (3-17) and Dean Woolsey (2-28) helped dismiss Methley for 72 before Tim Walton (34no) and Jack Hughes (24no) steered Townville home.

Shepley previously overcame Spen Victoria in their semi-final.

Hanging Heaton seconds will entertain Baildon in the Crowther Cup semi-final this Sunday.

Heaton defeated Townville by four wickets in last Sunday’s quarter-final, while Baildon dumped Barnsley out.

Wakefield Thornes defeated Buttershaw St Pauls and they play the winners of this Sunday’s tie between Slaithwaite and Woodlands in the semis.
