HW trio suffer Sunday Cup exits – AFC Chickenley fly WR Trophy flag
TOWNGATE, Heckmondwike Town and St John Fisher all bowed out of the West Riding Sunday Cup after defeats in their delayed ties.
Adam Clayton (two), Elliot Williams and Des Macorison scored for Towngate in normal time against Halton Moor but the visitors hit the crucial goal in extra-time to run out 5-4 winners.
Heckmondwike Town were tied 4-4 after 90 minutes at home to Rawdon Old Boys but the Leeds side then struck twice to earn a 6-5 victory in their fourth round tie.
Paul Walker and Jamie Wasley both scored twice for Heckmondwike who also had a goal from Matthew Biddle.
Robert Bordman (two) and Dave Bordman struck for St John Fisher in their third round clash, which was switched to Oxford Road, but Silsden edged through to the last 16 with a 4-3 success.
The Heavy Woollen’s last representative, Old Pack Horse, are due to host Huddersfield Irish Centre a week on Sunday in their delayed fourth round tie. The winners will earn a quarter-final at Alverthorpe, who won 6-5 on penalties at East End Park after the sides drew 3-3 after extra-time.
n AFC Chickenley marched into the West Riding Sunday Trophy quarter-finals with a 5-3 home win over Queensbury. Tim Clarke (two) led the way while Gene Smith, Craig Gomersal and Sam Pickles also struck.
They will now have a home quarter-final on Sunday February 7 against Stanningley Albion, who won 3-2 at Brittania Sports.
Scholes Athletic had Luke Kennedy and Danny Russon on target as they lost their fourth round tie at Micklefield Town 6-2.
