Liversedge and Batley seal Championship victories

Opener Harvey Anderson (61) top scored on his Ossett debut but was the only batsman to make an impression as they were bowled out for 145.

Steve Lane (4-26) and Jessie Dinnie (3-23) were the pick of the Liversedge bowlers, before Mark Hydes (68) and Paul Marlow (32no) helped the visitors complete victory.

Batley also opened their account with a win as they overcame local rivals Birstall by six wickets.

Danny Broadbent’s 50 was the only contribution of note as Birstall were bowled out for 139 in the face of an impressive spell of bowling from Huzaifa Patel (3-43).

Batley eased to their target with Sufyan Patel making 39.

Former Cleckheaton overseas player Tanzeel Altaf claimed 6-46 on his debut for Saltaire, as they overcame Keighley by three wickets.

Altaf’s spell helped dismiss Keighley for 167 and although Mohammed Shahnawaz claimed 5-35 in reply, Saltaire sealed victory.

Hunslet Nelson were dismissed for just 53 but then reduced Yeadon’s reply to 14-6 before the home side edged to a four wicket win.

Hartshead Moor pushed last season’s Central Yorkshire League champions Methley all the way in their opening Bradford League Championship B game.

Methley plunged to 66-8 against excellent bowling from Nasseer Saudegar (5-38) and Danny Squire (4-36), but Edward Walmsley made a patient unbeaten 30 to steer his side to 119 all out.

Hartshead struggled from the start and were bowled out for 91, in a total which was boosted by 31 extras of which 16 were wides.

Joshua Sullivan (4-0) and Marcus Walmsley (3-25) were the pick of Methley’s bowlers.

Gomersal slipped to a 147-run defeat at Townville, who racked up 302-4 with Jonathan Hughes making 106

Gomersal were restricted to 155-9 in reply as Hughes followed up with 3-25.

Hopton Mills suffered a five-wicket defeat at the hands of Bankfoot.

Mills were bowled out for just 89 as Kamran Siddique (3-0) and Shoukat Ali (3-18) impressed before Bankfoot eased home with Hisan Ahmad top scoring with 26.

Spen Victoria suffered a five-wicket defeat against Altofts, who had New Zealand all-rounder Matthew Holstein to thank.

Holstein took 4-29 as he and Jordan Price (3-50) restricted Spen to 200-8, despite 72 from debut-making New Zealander Nic Montgomery.

Holstein followed up by top scoring with 56 as he and Matthew Richardson (55) saw their side to their target with nine overs to spare.

Bowling Old Lane posted 293-7 on their way to a 29-run victory over Carlton, who replied with 264-6.

Newcomers Heckmondwike and Carlinghow marked their Conference debut with a comfortable eight-wicket home win over Adwalton.

Matthew Crowther made an unbeaten 90 as last season’s Huddersfield Central League champions overhauled Adwalton’s total of 145 after Jonathan Elstub (3-32) and Paul Cooper (3-34) had impressed with the ball for Heckmondwike.
