Mirfield hold a two point advantage over Queensbury and know a draw will be enough to secure the title, while the visitors need to win by five points or more to deny the Stags.

The Stags were awarded a 30-0 victory over King Cross Park last Saturday as they closed in on the Pennine League Championship title.

The Stags racked up an 11th win of the season the previous Wednesday as they thrashed West Leeds Eagles 62-16 to set up the title showdown against Queensbury.

Ross Hayden crossed for five fantastic tries as Mirfield demolished West Leeds.

James Wilson opened the scoring after two minutes and Hayden kicked the first of his nine goals from 11 attempts.

Wayne Jowett produced a superb one-handed offload to send Phil Shotton over before Hayden got on the end of his own kick-through to cross.

West Leeds pulled a try back but Josh Plunkett galloped 40 metres to lay the platform for Hayden’s second, which the full-back converted.

Hayden completed his hat-trick and then sent captain Reece Spurr over, with Braden Hunter also scoring as the Stags led 40-4 at half-time.

Winger Tom Coates set up field position for Hayden to score again and after West Leeds bagged a consolation try, Coates crossed to claim his second try in as many games.

Further Stags tries followed from Spurr and Hayden, one of which was converted by Hunter, completing the win.

The Stags Academy thrashed Illingworth 70-4 last Saturday to move within two points of Division Four West leaders Birkenshaw.

With King Cross Park failing to raise a side for the first team fixture, Mirfield opted to field a very strong A team side.

Hayden followed up his midweek try scoring exploits by racing the length of the field to score and he also added six first half conversions.

Adam Whiteley, Lewis Martin, Nathan Hadfield, Ben Womersley and Chris Aked also scored in the first half as the Stags led 34-0.

Whiteley added a second try, Callum Green raced the length of the field to score and he added four second half goals.

Further tries from Jonno Hellings, Luke Manning, Joel Shaw and Adam Goldsworthy, together with a Womersley goal, saw Mirfield lead 70-0 before Illingworth scored a late consolation try.

The Stags A travel to Birkenshaw tonight (Thursday), then host Cowling Harlequins on Saturday before ending their campaign at home to Silsden on Wednesday May 11.
