Shehzad century sets up Heckmondwike win

Khurram Shehzad smashed a quickfire century to help Heckmondwike record a 101-run victory over Adwalton last Saturday.

Heckmondwike’s total of 333 was the day’s biggest score in the Allrounder Bradford League as they moved up to seventh place in the Conference.

Shehzad made 102 off just 51 balls as he hammered nine sixes and eight fours.

Matthew Crowther (51), Usman Qureshi (40) and Maqsood Hashmi (40) joined in the run spree while Vinit Patel did well to emerge with figures of 4-58, including a hat-trick.

Adwalton at least had the consolation of bagging maximum bonus points after hitting 232-9 in reply.

Chris Curtis (56no) and Ben Garner (50) led the way, while Paul Cooper (3-70) was pick of the Heckmondwike bowlers.

Another batsman to make a century was Buttershaw St Paul’s Tosh Baker, who made an unbeaten 112 against Crossbank Methodists.

Baker smashed five sixes and 11 fours and shared in a third-wicket partnership of 133 with Gary Wainwright (95).

The St Paul’s total of 256-4 proved too daunting for Crossbank who were bowled out for 154.

Christian Duncan (65no) and James Coulborn (45) top scored as, while Ben Platt picked up 4-32 with his left-arm spin, while Baker took 3-57.

Victory allowed Buttershaw to close within 10 points of leaders Northowram Fields, who were not in action last week.

Great Preston closed to within seven points of Northowram and are three ahead of Buttershaw in second place.

Syed Shah Bukhari produced a fine spell of 6-49 which enabled Azaad to dismiss East Ardsley for 144 and wrap up a 31-run win.

Allan Olbison was in the wickets again with 5-44 as East Leeds bowled out Gildersome for 157 to complete an 84-run win, while Wakefield St Michael’s Mark Atkinson hit 76 in his side’s 260-6 before restricting second-bottom Rodley to 200-8.
