Snooker star Davis pulls out the stops in exhibition

Over 150 people packed into the club to see the snooker star roll back the years as he took on some of the areas top players in a series of matches.

Davis was also on hand to open the newly refurbished snooker lounge at Hanging Heaton.

Davis made a mad dash from Glastonbury, where he was appearing as a DJ, to attend the function at the Batley club.

He played Hanging Heaton player and former CIU English champion Wayne Cooper in a best of five showdown before taking on five other local players in a one frame shoot out.

Davis showed his class in the first frame hitting an 81 break but Cooper fought back to level the match with breaks of 30 and 50.

Davis upped his game in the third to win 93-27 but again Cooper fought back to level at 2-2 and the four times Yorkshire champion then won the fifth frame decider 59-20.

Thirteen-year-old prodige Gary Barrington, from Barnsley, was given chance to play Davis, who won the frame 82-11.

Alverthorpe Con Club’s Craig Longbottom defeated Davis 58-33 but the former World Champion then turned on the style to rack up a superb century break against Jamie Aitcheson.

Aitcheson was announced to the table as one of the best players to come from Dewsbury and led 14-0 early on before Davis cashed in on a missed black to register a 105 break, which was met by rapturous applause.

Nathan Walton (Edge Top) defeated Davis 65-41 before Richard Pamment secured a 72-1 win thanks to a 44 break.

Davis congratulated the opponents he faced and was impressed by the high standard of snooker players the area has to offer.

He finished the night with an entertaining display of trick shots, while telling stories of his decorated career and some of the opponents he met as a professional.
