Tantalising Spen HW Cup derby – East Bierley National Cup draw

THE first round draw of the Heavy Woollen Cup has thrown up a cracking Bradford League derby with Spen Victoria entertaining Woodlands on Sunday April 18.

Gomersal have an intriguing clash against Bradford League champions Baildon, while Scholes entertain Huddersfield side Kirkheaton and Mirfield Parish Cavaliers travel to Idle.

Birstall and Hanging Heaton are on the road.

Birstall travel to Slaithwaite, while Heaton’s new signing Nick Bresnan will be relishing the prospect of coming up against his ‘home’ club Townville.

Heavy Woollen Cup first round, to be played on Sunday, April 18 (start 1pm): Methley v Shepley, Scholes (CYL) v Kirkheaton, New Farnley v Golcar, Kirkburton v Morley, Yeadon v Liversedge, Townville v Hanging Heaton, Spen Victoria v Woodlands, Wrenthorpe v Delph & Dobcross, Clayton West v Barkisland, Idle v Mirfield Parish Cavaliers, Buttershaw St Paul’s v Jer Lane, Wakefield Thornes v Wakefield St Michael’s, Scholes (HL) v Barnsley, Slaithwaite v Birstall, Gomersal v Baildon, Skelmanthorpe v Shelley.

The Crowther Cup first round draw is reversed.

n East Bierley have been drawn at home to Driffield Town in the ECB National Cup first round on Sunday May 16. If Bierley win that tie, they will be at home to the winners of Wickersley Old Village and Mansfield Hosiery Mills.

Hanging Heaton will host Doncaster Town in the opening round, with the winners travelling to Barnsley or Derbyshire Premier Division side Alvaston and Boulton.

Derbyshire CC will host the final on Saturday September 18.
