Under-9 cricket event launched

THIS year’s Gordon Bowers Under-9 cricket competition has been launched and clubs around the area, from all junior leagues, are invited to take part.

It is for teams of eight players who were all Under-9 on September 1 2011.

There will be four divisions of four teams in the initial stages arranged as geographically as possible. The games will be 16 overs a side, apart from the final which will be 20 overs.

All games will be played under MCC rules. A supaball is used so batsmen are not required to wear pads, though they will wear batting gloves and an abdominal protector. The wicketkeeper must wear pads, abdominal protector and wicketkeeper’s gloves plus a helmet if standing up to the wicket.

Each team plays six matches on a home and away basis. The top two teams in each group will go into an open knockout draw finishing with a Sunday morning final at Undercliffe CC.

Any clubs interested in joining the competition are asked to complete and return an entry form, available from the competition organiser Tom Priestley, 21 Lynwood Close, Birkenshaw, Bradford BD11 2EU; Telephone 01274872942 or e-mail: tpriestley346@btinternet.com. Entry fee is £5 per team. The closing date for the competition is February 10
