Batley eye home semi in Shield

Batley Bulldogs can take another big step towards securing a home semi-final in the Kingstone Press Championship Shield if they overcome lowly Oldham on Sunday.

Batley have won their opening two Shield fixtures, thrashing Swinton Lions 62-10 at home before last week’s 34-14 success in a hard-fought game against Rochdale.

Second placed Batley are two points clear of Sheffield Eagles — who host Dewsbury Rams on Sunday — with the top two clubs at the end of seven rounds receiving home advantage.

Toulouse look on course to finish top as they hold a six point lead over Batley with five games to play and they entertian Rochdale on Saturday.

Oldham arrive at Mount Pleasant in deep relegation trouble following last week’s defeat to bottom side Bradford Bulls and the Roughyeds lie second-bottom, a point behind Swinton.

James Brown is set to miss the game after he entered an early guilty plea to a dangerous throw and was handed a one-match ban on Tuesday.
