Shaw Cross Sharks A produced an impressive attacking display to defeat Hunslet Warriors A 44-16 and keep alive their play-off hopes in Yorkshire Men’s League Division Three last Saturday.

The Sharks showed no sign of ring rust having not played for four weeks as half-backs Chalkley and Naughton provided the spark to repeatedly create openings.

Strong forward play came from Burland, Ellis, Buggle, Parker and debutant Tom Dunford.

Young winger Ben Ripley crossed for two tries with Buggle and Ben Spaven also scoring a brace apiece, while veteran Jonny Numa crashed over with his first touch.

Tom Stuckey’s weaving runs were a threat, with Mitch Firth, Jake Townsend, Harry Webster and try scoring MoM Aiden Chandler also impressing.

Dec Brereton completed the scoring with a 90 metre effort after gathering a kick and crashing through the Warriors’ defence to sprint clear.

The Sharks will look to build on this momentum but are again without a fixture this weekend.

Mirfield Stags are bottom of the Premier Division after slipping to a 40-6 defeat away to Beverley Braves.

The Stags created plenty of scoring chances but were repelled by a solid defence.

Tom Coates went close to opening the scoring before Beverley struck when Peter Stirling raced down the wing and over for a try that Bobby Humble converted.

Mirfield hit back when a kick from player/coach Francis Maloney was fumbled and from the resulting attack, Braden Hunter crashed over for a try he goaled.

Alex Calvert barged over for Beverley and Humble improved before the Braves withstood a spell of Stags’ pressure and then launched a counter attack with a Ryan Devaney try, converted by Humble.

Mirfield trailed 18-6 at half-time and Stirling extended Beverley’s lead with an early second half try, which Humble goaled.

Mirfield went close again but Beverley added a fifth try through Tom Moley before Glen Andfield raced the length of the field for a converted try.

Jake Hartfisher grabbed a 79th minute try and Humble’s goal completed his side’s win.
