Blissful break from stressful lifestyle

Spa weekends are the ultimate in pampering luxury, so the chance to visit Huddersfield’s own Titanic Spa was something I couldn’t miss out on.

I’d heard plenty of good things about Titanic so I was eagerly anticipating my weekend of relaxation.

My husband and I were booked in for the Simply Spa weekend, which included overnight accommodation, gym and pool, lunch, an evening meal, breakfast hamper and the Titanic Spa Heat and Ice experience. Also on offer was the Elemis Modern Skin facial for me and Elemis deep tissue massage for my husband.

On arrival at 11am we were given cosy dressing gowns and slippers before heading to the 15 metre salt regulated, solar heated pool. It has a jacuzzi, underwater music, colour changing lights and a sauna and steam room, while guests can join in aqua fit, swimming lesson and candlelight swimming. It was a bit too cold for a lazy splash about but perfect for an invigorating few lengths.

At 12.30pm we made our way to the bistro for lunch, which can only be described as outstanding. We ate Bolster Moor Farm beef pastrami open sandwiches with garnishes, coleslaw and a handful of Kettle Chips, which was given top marks by both of us.

Also on offer was poached salmon with sweet lemon oil, seared halloumi cheese with pesto; salads and soup.

After lunch we spent an hour in the relaxation room, where you can relax and flick through a magazine on bean bags or loungers.

At 2pm we took our bags up to our apartment.
Titanic Spa is in a former textile mill and the spa has 30 apartments for overnight stays. The room had an open plan kitchen living room with a huge window and balcony with stunning views; kitchen, bathroom and upstairs bedroom. Our breakfast hamper contained cereal, fruit, biscuits, croissants and jam, orange juice and milk.

The apartments also have sofa beds and some can sleep up to eight people.

After checking into the apartment I left my husband watching snooker on the large screen TV while I went for my Elemis modern skin facial. The treatment rooms are beautifully decorated and very calming, full of the soothing aromas of essential oils.

After a skin consultation my therapist, Chloe, left me to get comfortable before my facial, which Elemis says is a purifying treatment designed for skin challenged by modern living. It’s described as bursting with anti-oxidant rich minerals and vitamins and promises to help remove damaging toxins, regenerate skin cells and rebalance sebum, leaving remineralised, rebalanced and renewed skin.

The facial started with a foot cleanse, which was a new one on me, but very soothing!

Elemis products are very luxurious and smell wonderful; you can feel the quality on your skin. The facial includes a papaya enzyme peel and a peel-off mask which contains Japanese seaweed, magnesium, copper and zinc. This was very cold when it went on but soon the feeling was wonderful.

The hour-long facial was very relaxing and my skin looked clearer and very pink and clean afterwards.

My husband’s deep tissue massage was an hour long and designed to alleviate stress, ease aching muscles and revive the senses using essential oil blends.

He said he found it very relaxing and despite not being a spa natural, admitted to feeling pretty mellow that evening!

While my husband was having his massage I ventured into the Heat and Ice Experience, which is a wonderfully relaxing treat. The experience guides you through six hot rooms and gives you the chance to cool off in the plunge pool, cold showers, the bucket shower, which I wimped out from, and the ice room, which I did go into and brave rubbing the ice on my skin, which was actually very reviving!

The hot rooms include saunas, steam rooms, an aromatherapy room and herbal infusion room and reflexology foot baths, and as an added extra the private mud chamber, where you cancover yourself in organic mud before being enveloped in herbal steam and rinsed off in a tropical rain shower.

The two course evening meal was a wonderful way to finish off a beautifully relaxing day. To start I had wild mushrooms in garlic, white wine and cream, while my husband had Indian spiced pork and beef kofta kebab – both were fantastic. For my main I had Greek spiced pork belly and pork loin, and my husband had potato gnocchi with warm kiln smoked salmon, again both outstanding. This was topped off with a delicious white wine and awonderful night’s sleep in our apartment.
