Festival: If it’s good enough for them...

With the forecasters predicting no end to the heatwave, hopes are high that the ultimate summer band will enjoy a hot time at this weekend’s Clarence Park Festival in Wakefield.

Dodgy are the trio who have grabbed the headlines, of course, but whatever your musical predilections, Wakefield Music Collective are striving to entertain you with a varied menu from reggae to jangly indie, ska to old-fashioned rock, DJ sets, electronica and most genres in between.

The music runs from noon to 8pm on both Saturday and Sunday, with a total of 23 bands and DJs performing.

As well as the free park show, there will be a launch party at the Hop on Friday night, an after-show party at the same place on Sunday and various fringe events at city venues.

The Collective’s Rachel Winstanley said: “We’re all very excited and think it’s brilliant that we have a named band like Dodgy playing on our famous bandstand stage.

“If Clarence Park is ‘good enough’ for them, it’s ‘good enough for me’ – and for everyone who we’re inviting to enjoy a great weekend.”

The Collective are aiming for a family-friendly festival, which will also feature craft and food stalls plus an Ossett Brewery Beer tent.

Rachel said: “Thank you to our funders, sponsors, vendors and supporters who have helped fund the festival.”

Saturday’s other acts include Antonio Lulic, White Pigeon, The Repeat Offenders, Auction For The Promise Club, Vienna Ditto and Rory Hoy Rory Hoy. Sunday’s line-up includes Archean Soundtrack, Never A Hero, Eva Abraham, Famous Villains, J The Ex, The Majestic, Hemingway, Raptusound, King Canute and The Lagan.
