Organiser Gill Atkinson has brought together a wealth of musical talent to provide youngsters with the experience of performing in a fully produced concert and send out a positive message to improve confidence.

Classical star Faryl Smith, a former Britain’s Got Talent Finalist, will be performing and sharing her musical experience with young people from across West Yorkshire.

Faryl sang the National Anthem at Wembley this year ahead of the Carabao Cup Final between Manchester City and Arsenal and this marks her first visit to Wakefield’s stunning Cathedral.

Children from Wakefield schools including West Bretton Junior & Infants School Glee Club, are involved in the project alongside the Orange Box choir from Halifax.

Rising Star Callum Butterworth, a member of the Orange Box Choir will also be performing as well as Wakefield’s Rodillian Singers.

Gill said: “The impact of lack of confidence or low self-esteem (sometimes from bullying in its many guises) can have on the ability to perform or speak out is often devastating.

“How many adults wish they could speak out or intend to speak out, then freeze and forget what they want to say, when they see faces looking at them?

“What we hope to achieve with ‘Happy’ is the beginnings of a path towards confidence and self-esteem in performance in children so they can take this gift with them through their lives. Whether that be singing, playing in a band, presenting or just speaking to a group of friends.”

Faryl Smith said: “I’m delighted to be visiting Wakefield for the first time and look forward to meeting the children and letting them know that anything is possible with dedication and a positive attitude.”

Working alongside the performers is Adele Gladman, a safeguarding expert and author who works across the UK improving services and outcomes for children.
