Leeds-based Eaves coming ‘home’ for Brudenell show

Just back from support dates with Mumford and Sons in Europe, Eaves (aka Joe Lyons) begins his tour tonight and will be heading all over the UK before coming back to Leeds to appear at the Brudenell Social Club on Wednesday, October 28.

The depth and timeless beauty of Eaves’ music and lyrical command have already drawn comparisons to the likes of Tim Buckley and Nick Drake.

He won an instant fan in Marcus Mumford, who asked Eaves to support his band after hearing him on the Huw Stephens live sessions on Radio 1.

Still in his early 20s and based in Leeds, having grown up on the other side of the Pennines, Eaves released his debut As Old As The Grave EP, to much acclaim in November last year.

His debut album followed earlier this year and is tinged with a world-weary wisdom that belies his age. His delicate and haunting songs have an ageless quality which touch on his upbringing, dreams and death, and especially the desire to get from where he was to where he wants to be.

“My songs are very emotional and change dramatically,” he says.

“To perform them, I have to be in the zone. I remember where I was when I wrote them and why I wrote them.

“I have to perform them in the way they were written; otherwise I’m letting myself and the audience down.”
