A music lover was so impressed with the talents of an American singer-songwriter he saw by chance, that he took on the role of promoter to get him a headline gig in the UK.

Ian Stafford, 40, went to a concert in Holmfirth with his wife Helen, 41, and was blown away by support act Jarrod Dickenson.

He said: “Jarrod is 6ft plus, wore a trilby and had a huge ginger beard. We weren’t expecting much, but then he started to sing. As soon as he opened his mouth we were blown away. We both looked at each other and just said: ‘Wow!’ “We were mesmerised for his full set.

“Afterwards we spoke to him briefly and said the next time he came over, we’d love to see him play at our local club, Lightcliffe Club. We went to see him twice more on that tour as we thought he was amazing.

“We’ve managed to pull it off and Jarrod is performing at Lightcliffe Club on February 22. He asked if we could promote him and even though we have never done anything like that, I and my friend Nick Spencer have agreed to do just that.

“We have also signed up Brighouse lad Roger Davies to support him.”

The concert takes place at Lightcliffe Club, Wakefield Road, Halifax. Tickets at £7.50 are available at www.ticketsource.co.uk/date/87511.
