The blaze caused extensive internal and structural damage to the club.

It is believed the fire was started by a naked flame.

The working men’s club closed shortly after Christmas last year.

Det Con Sarah Umpherville, of Kirklees District CID, said: “The fire has caused extensive internal and structural damage to the club.

“Initial enquiries by the fire service suggest the fire has started after a naked flame was used to set light to furnishings inside.
