“It has been a long and drawn out process but I wanted my office to be in Batley, I made no secret of that.

“But finding a suitable place wasn’t easy so we’ve had to make sure we didn’t do anything to jeopardise the one we did find. After a lot of negotiations the end is now in sight.”

The office will be on Branch Road in the town centre and be home to her constituency team, which has been operating from Cleckheaton since hours after the general election result.

Mrs Cox added: “It’s been very frustrating at times but we’ve done very well making sure we’ve not allowed any of this to impact on local people. The staff have worked very hard since the general election to ensure it has been business as usual.

“The priority has been offering a service and making a difference. We have already dealt with hundreds and hundreds of cases and letters and helped local people with a wide range of issues. It’s testament to just how hard the team is working.”
