BBRA chairman to step into spotlight
The chairman of a Batley trade group is gearing up for his acting debut.
Andrew Marsden, newly appointed chairman of the Batley Business and Retail Association, will take to the stage to play Herr Flick in Acorn Theatre Company’s production of Allo Allo at Batley Town Hall this month.
The show, based on the popular TV comedy, will run from Wednesday July 24 to Friday July 26.
Andrew said he got the part following a “chance conversation” and “one slightly ropey audition”.
He said: “I am looking forward to it and terrified in roughly equal measure. Who knows, next stop Hollywood!”
Allo Allo will be Acorn Theatre Group’s first ever show and hopes to raise money to support youth theatre projects run by parent company Acorn Productions.
The company has secured the rights to produce a youth production of Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat next year and form the Acorn Youth Theatre Company.
Acorn has also teamed up with Stagecoach Theatre School to run a week-long summer theatre workshop.
Andrew said he hoped the show would bring more people into Batley’s town centre.
He said: “Batley Town Hall already has a reputation for putting on high quality amateur performances.
“It is an opportunity for people to make a night of it – have a pre-show meal, and why not after-show drinks at one of Batley’s pubs?”
Tickets cost £12 with concessions and a discount for bookings of 10 or more.
