BNP man guilty of race charge

A SENIOR organiser for the British National Party in Batley and Dewsbury has been convicted of a race hate crime.

Andrew Jonathan Kershaw, 40, of Fieldhead Gardens, Shaw Cross, appeared before Batley and Dewsbury magistrates on June 16 to face one charge of religiously or racially motivated aggravated harassment against a police officer in Batley on January 12 this year.

He pleaded not guilty, but was convicted following a trial and fined 200 with 100 costs.

Kershaw appears as the Batley/Dewsbury co-ordinator in a line-up of local officials in the BNP's June 2003 newsletter.

This week Kershaw confirmed he was a BNP member but declined to comment further.
