Best-selling writer Carole Matthews will head to the town hall today for her afternoon tea session. The event goes ahead from 3pm-4.30pm and tickets are £8.

The Northern Ballet will host family workshops on the theme of the Tortoise and the Hare on Sunday.

And parents are encouraged to bring their children and bring the story to life through play and dance.

The £3 sessions in the Baker Room of Morley Library are between 10am-10.45am and 11-11.45am.

Broadcaster and former politician Michael Portillo makes his Life: A Game of Two Halves appearance at Morley Town Hall on Sunday from 7pm-8.30pm.

The show will touch on his journey from being a Conservative MP – he was hotly-touted to become party leader – to his new career as a BBC documentary presenter, hosting shows about British and Continental railway journeys.

There will be a question and answer session afterwards. The event costs £12.

Novelist Jack Sheffield will appear at the Meeting Hall in Gildersome Library on Tuesday discussing his new book Star Teacher.

Set at a school in 1985, its characters set their sites on romance, a village scarecrow competition and looming retirement.

The event costs £6, which includes a pea and pie supper, and tickets are available from Morley Library or by contacting Lesley Gettings on 0113 253 97763 – tickets are not available on the door.
