Bridges over woodland waters

Architecture students are helping to redesign bridges in Dewsbury Country Park.

Huddersfield University students Sidhra Tariq and Alaa Yafawi will work with Kirklees Council and global engineering leader Cummins Turbo Technologies to create re-design concepts for four bridges in the park.

The two students will gain some invaluable hands-on experience working alongside the Cummins team to draw up a feasibility study and proposals, which may include a new fifth bridge.

Cummins specialists will be assessing the final designs which the students will submit next year.

Coun Peter O’Neill, Cabinet member for communities and leisure, said: “It’s excellent to see students from the university being given the chance to work on a project that could see them leaving a lasting legacy.

“There are some exciting events and activities planned to take part at Dewsbury Country Park in 2015 and we encourage the community to get involved.”
