Carr Street wins blooming great award

The Birstall In Bloom Awards were held at the Birstall IDLC on Thursday 20 July.

Almost 100 people attended the event eager to know what they had achieved this year in the eight garden categories.

Awards of bronze, silver, silver gilt and gold were awarded in each category, with a special new award this year in memory of a hard working member who sadly died early this year.

The Carol Pearson Special Achievement Award was won by The Carr Street Community.

They made an exceptional effort this year, led by Theresa Gallagher, creating many colourful gardens and patios around the flats complex.

Certificates and rosettes were presented by the Mayor of Kirklees, Cllr Christine Iredale, and her husband Robert.

A spokesman said: “Thanks go to Bishop’s Bakery and Cobbles Cafe for providing the buffet, and Birstall in Bloom coordinator Joanna Cooney who was MC for the evening.”
