Two members of the Revolution Martial Arts Academy Nathan Bowler and Tony Wood will make their debut appearance in a mixed martial arts cage fight at the O2 Academy in Leeds in June.

And fellow club members are encouraging people and businesses to sponsor the pair. They will use the money to pay for a defibrillator to be housed at Woodkirk Valley Country Club, where they are based.

They plan to make the life-saving equipment available to anyone who uses the facility as well as motorists and nearby residents should they need it.

One of the instructors Steve Scaddan said: “Woodkirk Valley is like a community centre which holds various functions, weddings and parties and also holds small businesses inside its premises.

“Not only that but this venue is situated on the A653 Leeds Road which is a main road for thousands of commuters every day. It is extremely busy.

“We are hoping to put the defibrillator on the outside of the country club. It will be for the whole community to use should anyone need it.

“If something does happen to one of the many commuters on the A653, this equipment will be there to offer emergency help.”

Mr Scaddan, whose wife and then two-year-old daughter were involved in a collision outside their home on Leeds Road, Dewsbury last year, added: “Win, lose or draw, the lads will literally be fighting for a defibrillator. We don’t want anyone’s life to be at risk for lack of access to one of these life-saving pieces of equipment.”

The club aims to raise £3,000 for the defibrillator and training courses teaching people how to use it. Any leftover funds will be given to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
