Company aims to recruit 30 new students

Crossroads Truck and Bus has teamed up with a number of higher education establishments to help more people break into the trade.

The firm set up its new Hartshorne Crossroads Group engineering programme following the growth of the commercial vehicle industry.

It claimed there is a higher demand for multi-skilled technicians who are trained in advanced vehicle technologies.

The scheme offers applicants the chance to work within the company, which operates nine Volvo dealerships across Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

Candidates will work to obtain an industry-recognised qualification based on a combination of college and work-place learning.

Chairman and managing director Martin Cronin said: “We recently launched our HCG Engineering Programme because we recognise if we are to build our business for the future then we are reliant on the youngsters of today.”

“Now is the time to be proactive and to give local people the chance to forge a career in our transport industry.

“We hope that some of these applicants will go on to become senior managers within the company.”

Kirklees College is one of the establishments chosen to work in partnership with the programme.

Engineering coordinator Andrew Roberts said: “This represents a tremendous opportunity for young people to develop their skills and embark upon a rewarding career.

“We greatly appreciate the enthusiasm and commitment of employers like Crossroads.”
