Crow Nest Park cafe re-opens with big plans for the future

Navid Akhtar has taken over the lease after months of uncertainty over the cafe’s future. The proprietor now has big plans for his establishment, which is open from 8am-6pm in winter and from 8am-8pm during the summer.

He hopes to serve Dewsbury’s diverse community by selling both English and Asian breakfast options, and he has also introduced a new range of cakes by Maughans.

“The first thing we did was to introduce a decent cup of coffee! But we’ve got lots of ideas for the future,” said Navid.

The menu will also feature ‘back to school’ puddings, samosas, kebabs and seasonal delicacies such as toffee apples for Halloween and Bonfire Night. Navid is also planning a full refurbishment of the premises.

“We want to re-arrange the interior to get rid of the congestion at the door and make it easier for pushchairs and wheelchairs. and then we intend to develop the back room for community groups - say a knitting group or

mothers and toddlers group - to use.” Navid would welcome approaches from groups keen to discuss possibilities with him.

“We’re overjoyed that the café’s future is assured. We welcome Navid to the park and look forward to working with him on future events,” said Friends of Crow Nest chair Denis Ripley.

The cafe will close temporarily for refurbishment at Christmas and will then hold a grand opening.
