Dancing in the streets at Birstall switch-on

FESTIVE fun will sweep across Birstall market place for the official switch-on of the Christmas lights.

From 4pm on Tuesday December 4, visitors can enjoy a funfair and Blackpool donkey rides to kick off the festivities.

Then from 6.30pm, musical entertainment from the Salvation Army band will include Christmas carols and other seasonal tunes.

Youngsters will have the chance to meet Santa, with a special visit from the man himself arranged by the Birstall Luddites.

At 7pm, the switch-on will begin with a short prayer led by Birstall Methodist church before the switch is flicked and Birstall’s twinkling lights are illuminated.

It is not yet known who will be switching on the lights on December 4 but organisers are hoping for a community hero to do the honours.

After the switch-on, youngsters from Chris Beaumont’s School of Dance will perform in the streets to continue the festive fun.
