Decision time for NHS services

NHS bosses have called a meeting to decide whether to proceed with a hospital shake-up which could leave Kirklees with no full A&E department.

They are planning to centralise emergency care in Halifax and downgrade Huddersfield’s A&E to an urgent care centre treating minor ailments.

Calderdale Royal Hospital would be expanded under the proposals, designed to tackle a £280m funding gap.

Huddersfield’s existing infirmary would be replaced with a smaller hospital for planned NHS procedures.

The meeting will be held on Thursday, October 20, at the Cedar Court, Ainley Top, Huddersfield, at 2pm.
