“Deliberate” car fire spreads to house and neighbour’s property

A car was “deliberately” set on fire and spread to two other vehicles, a garage and house.

Firefighters from Dewsbury’s station rushed out to Leeds Road in the Shaw Cross of the town at around 3am to tackle the blaze.

A car parked in the home’s drive was fully alight when they arrived.

In the course of their hour dealing with it, the fire reached a second car parked near it.

It also damaged the male car owner’s garage and house guttering.

The blaze then spread to his fence and reached his neighbour’s car, which was damaged.

Watch commander Andy Flynn said: “The car was fully involved. We believe it was started deliberately.”
