Dewsbury and District Hospital boss steps down amid criticism

THE boss of the cash-strapped trust that runs Dewsbury and District Hospital has stepped down amid mounting criticism of the management of its finances.

Health chiefs have announced that Julia Squire, who has been chief executive of the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust for the last five years, is leaving the organisation – just days after it emerged the trust faces a deficit of almost £20m.

Stephen Eames, chief executive of County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, will join the trust as interim chief executive in March.

Ms Squire will start a new role with the NHS Confederation.

The trust said in a statement: “The trust board wishes Julia every success in her new role and expresses its thanks for her positive contribution. We now look forward to working with Stephen to continue to provide safe, high quality care and develop our future vision.”

Tracey McErlain-Burns, chief nurse at the trust, will act as interim chief executive until Mr Eames takes up his new role.
