A drama school opened its doors for the first time on Saturday – with the help of some celebrity guests.

The Joshua Brown School of Acting welcomed youngsters and their parents for a fun day of acting workshops and performances.

Joshua enjoyed TV fame as Alex Pickering on Grange Hill aged 14 and went on to appear in popular show including Holby City, Emmerdale and Shameless.

This week the 22-year-old began passing on the tricks of the trade to students as classes began at his Bradford Road acting school.

He said the open day was a great success, with visits from Emmerdale actor Jamie Shelton, who plays Robbie, and Andy Ellis, who played Gadget in the film This is England.

He said: “It went really well, it was quite an eventful day.

“Around 100 people came, we ran some exercises and games and got the parents and kids involved.

“A few parents brought younger children to start them off at a young age.”

Joshua is running classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays and may begin Saturday classes if there is enough demand.
