Firefighters walk out in 48th strike over pensions

It is the 48th period of industrial action taken by members of the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) in a long running dispute with the government over pensions.

Union members across the country began the 24-hour period of industrial action at 9am.

The dispute began in 2013 when the FBU opposed government plans to raise the retirement age from 55 to 60.
