Napoli goalscorer Edinson Cavani has a £52 million release clause and, if today’s Daily Mail is to be believed, City have been saving up their lunch money this January to meet the fee in the summer.

While they could probably pick up Papiss Cisse for a third of that price, the blue-mancs are apparently sweet on the Argentine striker who has already netted 18 in 19 this season for the Neopolitans.

The paper also claims that City could in turn let four players go to balance their books for UEFA’s fair play rules, including the aforementioned unloved Edin Dzeko – who has scored 13 goals this season.

Oh – and they’re getting Victor Wanyama as well. Did I say?

Speaking of movers at Man City, the Express has boldly claimed that the club may have to fight off a bid from Real Madrid for the tiny playmaker this summer. Good luck.

Terrifyingly-named Partizan Belgrade striker Lazar Markovic has denied that he has agreed a £10m deal to join Chelsea. He said: “There is no contract, not a even a pre-contract.” (Daily Express)

Poor old Gary Hooper. After Celtic reportedly rejected bids of up to £7.5 million from Norwich for the striker (though how Delia would fund such a bid is beyond me), he was then bullied to high-heaven by Juve’s monstrous centre-halves on Tuesday. One green-shoot of hope for the striker will be that Spurs are apparently interested. (Metro)

Villa seem to be taking their need for an experienced centre-half rather seriously, as rubenesque veteran Richard Dunne (who has yet to play this season) looks like he may be offered a new contract at the end of the season. (The Mirror)

Worrying news for Chelsea fans – David Luiz, possibly the greatest attacking centre-half since Keith Curle (yes, THAT good) is apparently wanted by Euro-titans Barca.

The Daily Star says Catalans’ boss Tito Villanova is on the hunt for a new centre-half, and is keen to add Luiz’s 80-yard scorpion-kick screamers to his squad.

Liverpool love their awkwardly-pronounceable footballers, and according to the Metro, the club tried to swell their ranks by signing Hungary winger Balazs Dzsudzsak during the January transfer window but Dynamo Moscow refused to sell. (Metro)

Huddersfield Town have confirmed Mark Robins as their new manager.

The former Rotherham and Barnsley boss has made his way up north after taking cash-strapped Coventry to the brink of the League One playoff places.

Town chairman Dean Hoyle today commented on Mark’s appointment: “We’ve been through a lengthy and detailed process in appointing Mark as the Club’s new manager and we are delighted.

“As I said we would, we have taken our time in making this appointment because it is such an important one, both for our short and long term ambitions. Obviously retention our Championship status is vital, but we also needed a manager who buys into the Club’s football philosophy and structure. We believe Mark is that man.

“Mark has the knowledge, skills and attributes that the Board of Directors set out for our new manager and it is clear that he shares our vision, philosophy and values.”

Leeds legend Peter Lorimer has urged fans to be patient with the club’s new middle-Eastern owners, amid speculation of another takeover.

Lorimer, writing in his Yorkshire Evening Post column, says: “For a long time I listened to supporters telling me they wanted a change of ownership at Leeds United and wanted Ken Bates out.

“Well those fans got their wish eight weeks ago when GFH Capital bought the club. Yet now I hear United’s new owners coming in for stick as people make assumptions about what they’re doing and what they’re planning for the months ahead.

“They’ve been in charge at Elland Road for eight weeks. You can’t seriously tell me that a period of less than two months in the middle of the Championship season is a fair period of time on which to judge a takeover.”
