Flowers and plants have been dug up and holes up to three feet deep have appeared in some parts of the grounds in Cemetery Road.

Roger Jenkinson, of the Twin Chapels and Cemetery Support Group, said: “After I came back from a week away I noticed that one of the graves which is always well maintained had been disturbed. Plants were scattered around and a big hole had been dug in the soil.

“Some people assume if a grave has been disturbed it must be vandals but we’ve seen foxes on the CCTV. Around Christmas time last year we saw them eating the berries so we do know they come in. It hasn’t happened very often but anyone who has any problems with graves being disturbed by foxes can pop in to the Twin Chapels or get in touch with bereavement services.”

A council spokeswoman said: “We are aware that there are foxes in the area but we have had no complaints from any grave owners in the cemetery.”
