Frontier spirit of charity

BATLEY’S Frontier Club is in the front-line of a raft of special civic charity events.

The Bradford Road venue will host a night of entertainment as part of fundraising efforts for the Kirklees Mayor’s charity appeal in aid of the Yorkshire Regiment Benevolent Trust.

Coun David Ridgway’s chosen cause supports soldiers and families of the regiment finding themselves in difficulty or need. The calls on their funds are increasing and over the past three years more than £300,000 has been given out.

The Mayor said: “I have nothing but admiration for the Trust’s work. I have walked the Kirklees Way; I have shaken buckets at supermarkets; I have watched Huddersfield Town play for service personnel; and hosted a homecoming parade for Corunna Company back from Afghanistan.

“I also hosted a concert showcasing the wonderful musical talent which we have here in Kirklees.

“I thank everyone who has given their time and energy to help me and, of course, those who have made a donation.”

The Mayor’s Charity events continue into the New Year. Coun Ridgway said: “We have some brilliant events coming up with, I believe, something for everyone.”
