A women’s morris group is looking for new members, with a series of open evenings planned this month.
Persephone Women’s Morris will stage the evenings on Tuesday, October 18 and Tuesday, October 25 at Hunsworth Community Centre on Green Lane.
The sessions run from 7.30-9.30pm on each occasion and are for women aged 16 and older.
A spokesperson from the group said: “The team are a North West Processional Morris side and wear a distinctive black kit with a green and yellow sash and trim providing a noticeable contrast.
“We dance with bobbins, slings, sticks or garlands decorated in the team colours,” the spokesperson added.
“Dances are either processional for the whole team or written for six or eight dancers.
“We dance at local events and festivals in Yorkshire as well as further afield, the furthest being Prague at an International Dance Festival in the summer of 2008.
“We are keen to welcome new female dancers and female and male musicians, both new and experienced, to continue this tradition of North West Morris dancing both locally and across the country into the 21st century.”
