Happy times for Kirklees College pupils

The annual student COLS (College Outstanding Learner Success) ceremony took place at the college’s Huddersfield centre.

The 55 winners were presented their awards at the evening, which washosted by Huddersfield Town’s commercial director Sean Jarvis.

Awards were presented for exceptional achievement or progress in each curriculum area, while eight students were given a special award as winners of the college’s enterprise challenge held during Global Entrepreneurship Week.

Among the winners were Cleckheaton’s Jerzy Donajkowski and Marie Lagmay, both 18, for studies in construction and health and social care respectively.

Charlotte Birbeck, 19, of Birkenshaw, also received an award for her endeavours in health and social care.

Katie Webster, 18, from Mirfield, won an award for studies on her beauty course, while business studies duo Sithabile Moyo, 35, from Liversedge, and Umar Nana, 19, from Staincliffe, were also recognised.

Matthew Whyman, 17, of Heckmondwike, won his award for the media studies category, and Emily Hudson, 20, of Cleckheaton, scooped an award for her studies in public services.

Cameron Burnhill, 18, of Birkenshaw, and Kim Lundgren, 19, of Gomersal, won for sport and visual communication respectively.

Gibril Bojang, 22, of Dewsbury and Jake Goddard, 19, of Gomersal each won an award for IT. Thomas Fox, 20, of Hanging Heaton, won an award for engineering, while Mark Horvath, 19, of Ravensthorpe, and Muhammad Tahir, 22, of Thornhill Lees, each won an award for their studies in ESOL.

Marcus Porter, of Gomersal, and Adam Wilkinson, of Cleckheaton, each won an award for their work in foundation degrees. Leia Allen, of Earlsheaton, Dewsbury; Nathan Holdroyd, of Batley and Ben Whiteley, of Dewsbury, each took home an enterprise award for Art and Design.

Lauren Townend, 19, Liversedge completed her catering course while pregnant and her guest on the awards night was her baby daughter!

Among those there to cheer them on were the students’ family, friends, and tutors who had nominated the winning students and the college’s senior managers.

College principal Peter McCann told students: “Your tutors felt that you stood out from your peers and other students so you should all be very proud of this recognition of you as a person, your achievements and development to date, and your contribution to the college.”
