Have your name printed on Batley Bulldogs shirt

Batley Bulldogs fans can have their names printed on the next team away shirt to help kick-start the club’s new charity.

The Batley Sporting Charitable Trust was given foundation status two weeks ago, and hopes to work with a range of all-age community groups.

Supporters can pay £10 to have their names on the front of the shirt alongside other donors, which players will wear during away games.

The Bulldogs’ community manager Jon Humpleby, 41, of Crossley Lane, Mirfield, said: “First of all, it’s an exciting idea for a Christmas present.

“The charity is going to be about providing positive activities and opportunities for the whole of the local community, both sporting and non-sporting.

“Sport will be a way of getting some people on board, but we will do stuff around confidence and self-esteem, staying safe and building friendships. There will be something for everyone.

“In terms of the future, we’d like to be as big as Leeds and Bradford, who do fantastic things with their community. There’s no reason we can’t aspire to be doing things on the same level as them.

“It feels like things are really moving on the pitch, so it only makes sense to up the game off the field as well.”

Mr Humpleby thanked director Kevin Nicholas for giving the trust the go-ahead.

Meanwhile, prospective Batley and Spen Labour MP Jo Cox was the first put her and her family’s name forward for the shirt. She said: “It is an honour to be the first donor to their foundation and I look forward to seeing what positive contributions it makes.”

Orders for the shirt have to be made by January to allow time for the shirt to be designed.
