Improved school is praised
Following previous inspections in 2013, Batley Grammar School was told it required improvement.
But the latest report, due out formally in early March, has praised the school’s staff, pupils and governers after an inspection on January 28-29.

Hide AdLed by Marianne Young, inspectors wrote: “The headteacher is relentless in her push for improvement throughout the school. She has a clear vision for the school and uses information from a variety of sources in order to provide the best for all pupils.
“High expectations secure pupils’ good behaviour, safety and their positive attitudes to school.
“Attendance has improved since the previous inspection and pupils move around sensibly and arrive to lessons punctually.
“Arrangements to keep pupils safe are strong. Senior leaders and governors are well trained in safeguarding procedures and ensure that any inappropriate language is dealt with effectively.”

Hide AdHeadteacher Brigid Tullie said: “We are highly ambitious for the continued success of the school and are always looking to improve.We will be carefully considering the report’s suggestions which will enable us to make the next step.”
The report notes that early years and sixth form provision require improvement. Good is the second best mark Ofsted can give – outstanding is the highest grade.
