Kirklees Faith Network teamed up with the police to deliver a series of drug awareness session after reports that some maddrassah pupils had been approached by strangers attempting to sell them drugs.

Youth services officer PC Peter Whitehouse joined Dewsbury-based Men’s Health Magazine model Omer Ashgar to talk directly to children at Dewsbury’s Gulzar-E-Medina Mosque, Makki Mosque, Faizan-E-Medina Mosque and Madani Mosque, in Heckmondwike at the Darul-Irfan Ghausia Mosque and Kanzul-Iman Jamia Mosque, and the Jamia-Al-Saeed Mosque in Hanging Heaton.

The talks also had a general ‘stranger danger’ message.

Mr Asghar said: “A lot of children currently studying in the Maddrassahs will be starting high school and then going onto college in a few years time. T

“This will be a time in their lives when they shall be exploring the outside world and could get targeted by strangers who deal in illegal drugs or other harmful substances.

“So the message from both myself and PC Whitehouse of is just say no – and stay away from any kind of harmful drugs.”
