It is hoped the strategy will enhance the region by reducing inequalities in the future.

The council’s six priorities include making Kirklees the heart of a growing manufacturing and engineering cluster in Leeds City Region and kick starting the transformation of Dewsbury.

Enhancing enterprise, skills and opportunities for young people and having stimulating jobs are also targets for the council.

Furthermore, the strategy includes maximising on the high quality innovation and enterprise assets in the area and revitalising Huddersfield town centre.

Kirklees Council leader Coun David Sheard said: “A growing economy is the key to making Kirklees a better place in the future.

“A successful economy that offers good jobs and incomes for all of our communities makes a huge contribution to people’s prosperity, health and wellbeing across all age groups.

“It is also the case that confident, healthy, resilient people are better able to secure a job and are more productive in the workplace.”

The plans are now open for public debate among sectors across the district.
