LETTER: Memories from childhood were all brought back

Especially going off for the day with bottles of water.

I remember buying liquorice and putting it in the water bottle and vigorously shaking it to make delicious flavoured liquorice water!

I spent hours colouring the tops of the wooden top with coloured chalks so when we whipped them coloured patterns were made.

There was also collecting old pram wheels for our bunkers – you called them trolleys.

You never thought of any danger whilst hurtling down hills going at speed around corners.

More often than not, we’d go home with grazed knees and elbows as there were no 
knee pads or helmets back then!

Any bumps or bruises were treated with a bit of margarine and that was the be-all and end-all cure for even the biggest bump.

Nowadays, you rarely hear mothers calling their children in.

That is probably ecause they are inside with their head 
down on the latest electronic gadget!

How sad.
