Listen to unusual 999 calls

A MAN reporting a fight on TV soap Eastenders, a woman with designs on film star Mark Wahlberg and a multitude of X Factor wannabes.

It’s all in a day’s work for operators at West Yorkshire Police’s 999 call centre – but the Force is urging people not to abuse the emergency number.

Today, West Yorkshire Police released a recording of some of the inappropriate calls received in the past month.

Assistant Chief Constable for specialist operations Mark Milsom said: “Over the Christmas period we had an unprecedented demand on the 999 service. “I would encourage people to think carefully about whether they should be calling 999 or 101. The 999 number is for a genuine emergency or when there is a crime in progress. The 101 number is for incidents which do not need officers to attend immediately.”
