Maariyah bags turbocharged award
Cummins Turbo Technologies awarded former sixth form student Maariyah Rawat with its science, engineering, technology and maths (STEM) prize.
It is the first time the accolade has been won by a student at the Birstall School.

Hide AdMaariyah completed a summer placement with the Huddersfield firm last summer and was given the award, which relates to excellence in the STEM subjects.
Deputy headteacher Ray Henshaw said the experience gained helped her to secure a job in the industry.
“It’s lovely to see her doing so well,” he added.
Components Improvement Director at Cummins Turbo Technologies Mandy Kennedy said: “Cummins Turbo Technologies is working in partnership with Batley Girls High School to encourage and promote technical careers and STEM.
“As part of this work we have established an annual award which will be presented to the student nominated by the school for outstanding academic success in a STEM subject.”
