On your marks, get set, go!

The Liversedge half-marathon is back in business this weekend, and organisers are expecting 500 people to take part in the event.

Organisers say it is a bumper year for entries, which include a return for no less than four previous female winners.

The Roberttown Road Runners will be hoping for a good showing from their members, and one young runner has had more than a hand in preparations.

The group’s official tee shirt was designed by nine-year-old Roberttown boy Dan Sharp as part of a competition.

Dan’s dad Chris will be running his first half marathon and said he was very proud of his sons efforts and that the race was something they were both looking forwards to.

The route of the half marathon will start at Headlands Road via Roberttown Lane climbing Halifax Road to Hare Park. It will continue along Windy Bank before heading towards Bailiff Bridge with a left turn towards Brighouse.

The challenging climb up Jay House Lane over the Ford to the Thornhills is enough for the best runner to cope with, before a loop of Clifton Village via New Lane before climbing High Moor Lane towards Scholes. The drinks station will be welcomed at the 10 mile marker before heading home along Windy Bank Lane.
